A New Chapter of Hope: Health Center Dedication in Togo

ree

In West Africa, many families awaken each morning to the same daunting reality: a lack of access to quality medical care, something they could only dream of.

But in September, that dream became

reality. The community of Agbelouvè, Togo, gathered in celebration and gratitude to dedicate the new surgical building of the Togo

Health Center, a place where hope is no longer

distant, but alive and within reach.

This moment was made possible through the unwavering faithfulness of GPiH donors and partners, who have walked alongside GPiH to bring healing and dignity to some of the world’s most underserved regions. What was once an empty piece of land in the middle of rural Togo now stands as a shining symbol of compassion, partnership, and promise.

“We already have a well-trained team here for the medical center,” said Dr. Brett MacLean, GPiH Chief Medical Officer. “To expand as a hospital, we’re performing intermittent surgeries with doctors from Lomé and even from the U.S. Gradually, the goal is to recruit a full-time surgeon to provide 24-hour care.”

The Agbelouvè Surgical Center is now fully equipped and operational—with four operating rooms, C-section capability, anesthesia and oxygen systems, and equipment for laparoscopic and emergency surgeries. The first procedures have already taken place, marking the start of a new era of healthcare access for this region of Togo.

“Not only will people be treated, but lives will be saved,” shared Dr. Koffi ESAW, ONG Compassion President. “We’ve already seen cases where people were on the verge of death. Here, they’ve regained their lives—whether it’s women giving birth in difficult conditions or diabetics who have been restored.”

At the dedication, community leaders and families celebrated not just a building, but a new beginning. With improved road access, patients are already traveling from nearby villages and even Lomé, the nation’s capital, to receive care that was once out of reach.

For everyone who’s prayed, given, or gone — this is the fruit of your partnership. What began as hope on paper now stands in brick and mortar. And through Global Partners in Hope, that same vision continues: bringing clean water where there was thirst, healthcare where there was none, and hope where it once felt impossible.
